And More from sketch to reality...
I was greatly honored to be a part of this special community effort. You can read more about it on the Artist Page as well.
The Piano Sculpture was commissioned by the Cochise Music Teachers Association (CMTA) in Sierrra Vista, Arizona to honor the donors who had "adopted" keys on the new Kawai grand piano housed in Kino Hall, the newest performing arts venue in Sierra Vista.
When St. Andrews completed their new church building in 2006, the former church, renamed Kino Hall after Fr. Eusebio Kino, was converted into a parish center and performing arts center. The CMTA realized the need for a fine piano to be used in chamber music concerts and recitals in that venue, and donated the funds to "adopt" the first octave of the new instrument. Music lovers from the parish and community supported the project by purchasing additional keys, and as of February 2008, all but eight keys had been adopted. Many of the donors gave their contribution in memory or honor of loved ones.
The beautiful copper sculpture features the names of each of the donors and their designated loved ones on the key (or keys) they "adopted".
Beggining with my client contact at the CMTA, and their overall concept,
I made a few sample pieces based on their criteria, and the project began to collectively take shape from there.
As follows is a little photo record of the piece.
My client's above had a very good feel for where they wanted to head and so we collectively developed the piece from there. For clients who are looking to explore a range of initial options, I will make you sketches to pick from, and communicate with you hand in hand on on which one you prefer, and/or what aspects from each sketch design you would like to incorporate in the final artwork.
I am also more than happy to come up with something totally unique and unabridged for my clients.
Here are a couple "From Sketch to Reality" pieces.
Please see more of this piece on the Custom Copper 2 page, as it was added to a fountain to create a sculptural lighting component.
Custom Work Information
I thoroughly enjoy doing custom pieces and welcome all themes as they give me the opportunity to expand my artistic offering, while bringing new ideas to life. Depending on the complexity of the art, and level of detail sought, it can be a time consuming labor of love.
I offer basic first sketch work at no charge for design time. Once the initial concept sketch is brought to life or created, to help visualize the piece, and selected upon by my client, I then begin to transfer the concept from a small rendition sketch, to its proper scale and shape on paper. At this point I include this work in the artwork's price. I offer estimates which include the materials needed for the piece as well. Usually a 1/3 deposit amount plus material cost will get me started, with the balance and shipping due on completion of your work. To get an idea of the cost of a custom piece, please browse about my site, as some of the artwork shown is generally comparable in detail and price to where custom pieces end up in the final cost.
I welcome business, home, and non-profit organization commissions, from stylized renditions to pieces of exceptional detail and realism of any theme.
Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you by clicking on my swirling email link.
Thank You,
Joseph Ward
